You might have difficulties accessing your camera on your Windows 10 and/or Mac when there is another app utilizing your camera. To resolve the issue, you should close any other app that might be used by your camera. This includes apps that alter your background or apply camera filters (refer to the instructions below if you are unsure how to check which apps use your camera).

Also, ensure that the indicator light on your video camera is switched off. If it remains on, it indicates that another app is still utilizing the camera. Now, restart Google Chrome.

Instructions for checking which apps are using your camera on Windows 10:

  1. Open the Settings app from the Start menu.

  2. Navigate to Privacy > Camera.

  3. Apps that are currently using your camera will display "Currently using" below their respective names.

Instructions for checking which apps are using your camera on Mac:

  1. Select the Apple menu

  2. Choose System Settings

  3. Click Privacy & Security in the sidebar

  4. Select Camera on the right

  5. Turn access to the camera on or off for each app in the list

If you don't see Camera, you may need to upgrade to macOS Mojave or later. If there are no apps in the list, you haven't installed an app that uses the camera.
